January 2026 in Potsdam

For the first week of 2026, I started the year with a research trip to Potsdam, where I met with my old PhD supervisor Jean Braun. It was a very fruitful, cold and snowy first week!

With Jean, we started planning a new project based on duricrusts in French Guiana, which is the last chapter of my thesis (it’s one year old!!! Time flies…) and I learnt how to do model inversions using Mango (https://github.com/ARM-software/mango?tab=readme-ov-file). This project is something I am also doing with Cécile Gautheron and Beatrix Heller based in Grenoble. If all goes well, we will meet to discuss sometime during spring in Grenoble. Hopefully, the workshop will go well and an article might come out of it!

Back in Prague

Back in the office, two main things happened.

1. I was officially chosen as the Early Career Representative of the institute, which makes me very happy and having an ECR rep. is a huge motivation for us all.
2. At the same time, I submitted my first post-doc article to egusphere! It is a newly found out phenomena, where we investigate the creeping behaviour of mud volcanoes in Azerbaijan. This takes me back to 2019 when I was writing part of my master thesis on mud volcanoes… I am delighted to see that I could connect part of that work to my new research topics! February 2026: article published!

On the 13th of February, my second PhD article got published! As in the first, we explore a numerical model for duricrust formation, but this time, using laterisation and similar processes to create a duricrust! It is complimentary to the first and encompasses the second half of my work in Potsdam.
